The tournament that brings us home

Every year we organise a football tournament in Karahasanusağı, our village in Elbistan. Teams from the surrounding villages take part — and so do our people travelling back from the UK, Germany, France and beyond. For one summer, the whole diaspora meets on the same pitch to compete for the trophy.

Flying our colours in London

Football keeps our community together here too. Karahasanlılar Spor Kulübü runs teams for under-17s and over-17s, we organise football for our young people, and our senior side competes in the Sunday leagues — rain or mud, near or far, in the Karahasanlılar shirt.

Sunday league

Our senior team plays league football every weekend, representing the community across London's pitches.

Karahasanlılar Spor Kulübü fields both under-17 and over-17 teams, so every age group has a place to play.

Tournament final

A final decided on penalties

We took part in the tournament organised by the Turkish Community Football Federation, where the final between Mehmet Çil's team and Fenerbahçe kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Level after normal time and still level after extra time, the championship went to a penalty shoot-out — and Mehmet Çil's side held their nerve to lift the cup. The crowd applauded both teams, and the whole event showed how sport brings our community together in unity and friendship.
